We’re delighted to announce that Electrochaea has joined the e-NG coalition, a collaborative alliance of pioneering companies that believe electric natural gas (e-NG) is critical to the global energy transition.
Electric natural gas, also known as e-methane, is a low-carbon or carbon-neutral synthetic gas that’s indistinguishable from fossil natural gas. Compatible with existing gas infrastructure, e-NG is a drop-in replacement for fossil-derived fuel that enables an efficient and cost-effective transition to a more sustainable future.
As a long-time developer of biomethanation technology, Electrochaea is proud to join the e-NG coalition and supports its ambitions to accelerate the development of e-NG projects worldwide.
Our proprietary biocatalyst – a strain of archaea selected for its methanogenic properties – converts green hydrogen and biogenic or industrial CO2 into clean e-methane (e-NG). By utilizing renewable electricity and removing CO2 from the environment, e-methane production doesn’t just generate clean power: it also eliminates harmful carbon dioxide.
The e-NG Coalition is a collaboration of companies, all working together to raise awareness of electric natural gas (e-methane) and its pivotal role in building a sustainable future.
As well as promoting the use and global tradability of e-methane, the e-NG Coalition supports policy development and the harmonization of regulations and standards across the world.
Many countries and regions are already adopting e-methane mandates, but there is significant variation in regulatory standards from one location to another. By harmonizing these standards across countries and sectors, global e-methane production can scale more quickly and have a greater near-term impact on climate change.
Finally, the e-NG Coalition actively strengthens collaboration across the e-NG value chain. Bringing developers, offtakers and stakeholders together, it plays an important role in simplifying the supply chain and making e-methane production more accessible.
As members of the e-NG Coalition, Electrochaea joins a growing number of pioneering companies shaping the emerging e-methane sector, including Engie, IHI, Toho Gas, StandardCarbon, ItalGas, Mitsubishi Corporation, TES, Samsung E&A, TotalEnergies and many more.
