What is eLNG?
eLNG is a liquefied form of e-methane gas that’s produced from green hydrogen and recycled CO2.
As a drop-in replacement for fossil liquefied natural gas, eLNG is already a popular and effective way to reduce shipping emissions and is set to play a critical role in decarbonizing the maritime sector.

Building a greener future
from ancient archaea
Our innovative biomethanation technology uses ancient methanogenic archaea to convert green hydrogen and CO2 into renewable e-methane. This patented biocatalyst ensures optimal outputs and performance, with 98.5% CO2 conversion efficiency.
With our tech transfer and licensing agreements, shipping companies can increase energy stability and reduce emissions with their own eLNG production facilities or purchase eLNG directly from existing plants.
How it works
Electrochaea’s biomethanation technology operates as part of a two-step Power-to-Gas (P2G) system to convert green hydrogen and CO2 into grid-quality e-methane gas and renewable eLNG.
Generating green hydrogen is the first step in the P2G process. This can be achieved via on-site electrolysis or pyrolysis. Alternatively, green hydrogen can be delivered directly to the production site. This green hydrogen is fed into a bioreactor, along with CO2, where our proprietary methanogenic archaea synthesize e-methane gas.
Following this, standard liquefaction is used to convert the e-methane gas into eLNG. Used as a drop-in replacement for liquefied natural gas, eLNG is an Renewable Fuel of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) and can be independently certified to ensure regulatory compliance.
