Futureproof your operations

Cut CO2 emissions, reduce carbon tax liability and comply with current and future environmental regulations when you recycle industrial CO2 into low-carbon, renewable e-methane.

Reduce operating costs

Reduce reliance on fossil gas, increase energy stability and generate clean e-methane that can be used on site, transported or injected directly into the gas grid.

Diversify revenue streams

With mild process conditions and high tolerance to CO2 feed gas contaminants, our tech enables you to transform burdensome CO2 into a valuable source of green energy.

How it works

Electrochaea’s biomethanation technology operates as part of a Power-to-Gas system to convert green hydrogen and CO2 into grid-quality e-methane.

Green hydrogen can be generated on site via a standard electrolyzer, with renewable electricity and water being used to produce the hydrogen molecules. Alternatively, green hydrogen can be produced via pyrolysis or be delivered directly to your site, which negates the need for on-premises electrolysis. The CO2 emitted via industrial processes is then fed into a bioreactor, along with the green hydrogen.

In the bioreactor, our patented methanogenic archaea synthesize e-methane from the green hydrogen and CO2 to produce grid-quality e-methane that’s indistinguishable from natural gas. If necessary, post-processing can be incorporated to optimise the quality of the output before it’s stored, transported or injected into the grid.

Outperform competitors

Heavy industry accounts for a significant proportion of Scope 3 emissions and, as reporting requirements increase worldwide, companies are actively looking to reduce CO2 emissions throughout their supply chain.

Converting CO2 waste streams into e-methane reduces your carbon footprint and enables you to outperform competitors when it comes to Scope 3 emissions and environmental impact.

Improve energy stability

Powering your operations with e-methane produced on site enables you to reduce your reliance on fossil gas, lower energy-related costs and achieve enhanced energy stability while remaining insulated from fluctuating energy markets.

With excellent load following capabilities, our modular and scalable biomethanation tech provides a reliable source of on-demand renewable energy.

Multi-output functionality

E-methane gas is produced via biomethanation as part of a two-step Power-to-Gas system, but this isn’t the only option when it comes to utilizing the output.

When our grid-quality e-methane gas is subject to liquefaction, it is transformed into eLNG. A sustainable alternative to fossil energy, this liquid fuel can be used for a wide range of applications, including power, heat and transportation.
