Capture methane slips and increase RNG outputs

With Electrochaea’s technology, existing biomethane plants can maximize RNG outputs by using waste CO2 to generate additional e-methane. Raw biogas consists of approx. 30-50% CO2 which is often released into the atmosphere when it is upgraded to biomethane.

Electrochaea’s biomethanation tech uses this CO2 as an input source and, along with green hydrogen, transforms it into grid-quality e-methane, which can be added to the biomethane stream.

Effectively transforming biomethane plants into ‘multi-output’ or ‘hybrid’ plants, the integration of our technology delivers numerous benefits. As well as recovering the methane slip and converting it into value, it negates the need for flaring, thus reducing costs and processes. By using the methane slip to generate clean e-methane, the overall carbon footprint of the plant is reduced, and more renewable natural gas is generated. Furthermore, the value of this RNG is increased due to its reduced methane emissions.

Next-Gen Upgrading at Biogas Plants

Our innovative biomethanation tech can also be used to generate grid-quality e-methane directly from raw biogas, bypassing traditional upgrading methods and streamlining the production of RNG. Raw biogas is fed into the bioreactor, along with green hydrogen, where our patented archaea convert the CO2 and H2 into clean, e-methane.

This method of integration is ideal for existing biogas plants that want to maximize carbon utilization, reduce emissions and generate increased value via RNG production.
