Transform CO2 waste streams
into grid-quality e-methane

With Electrochaea’s biomethanation technology, bioethanol producers can utilize CO2 waste streams, generate new revenue streams and have a durable alternative to CCS. As demand for clean fuels rises, bioethanol production is increasing worldwide. However, the bioethanol production process generates a significant amount of CO2, particularly during the fermentation process.

With 98.5% CO2 conversion efficiency, our biomethanation technology enables you to convert virtually all waste CO2 into clean, grid-quality e-methane.
Reduce CO2 emissions
Cut your plant’s carbon footprint and limit your tax liability by recycling CO2 into low-carbon e-methane. Our technology uses untreated CO2 to generate grid-quality e-methane, which negates the need for CCU and simplifies your sustainable transition.
Lower OPEX

Generating e-methane gives you access to low-carbon, renewable gas that can be used to power on-site operations or injected directly into the grid. Avoid environmental sanctions and generate revenue from your plant’s CO2 emissions instead.

Maximize revenue
E-methane gas can be stored, transported or injected directly into the gas grid. By transforming CO2 into renewable natural gas, you can displace fossil gas, accelerate the energy transition and increase and diversify your plant’s revenue streams.

How it works

Electrochaea’s biomethanation technology operates as part of a Power-to-Gas system to convert green hydrogen and CO2 into grid-quality e-methane.

Green hydrogen can be generated on site via a standard electrolyzer, with renewable electricity and water being used to produce the hydrogen molecules. Alternatively, green hydrogen can be delivered directly to your site, which negates the need for on-premises electrolysis. The CO2 emitted via bioethanol production processes is then fed into a bioreactor, along with the green hydrogen.

In the bioreactor, our patented methanogenic archaea synthesize e-methane from the green hydrogen and CO2 to produce grid-quality e-methane that’s indistinguishable from natural gas. If necessary, post-processing can be incorporated to optimise the quality of the output before it’s stored, transported or injected into the grid.
