Electrochaea’s biomethanation technology operates as part of a two-step Power-to-Gas (P2G) system to convert green hydrogen and CO2 into grid-quality e-methane gas and renewable eLNG.
Generating green hydrogen is the first step in the P2G process. This can be achieved via on-site electrolysis or pyrolysis. Alternatively, green hydrogen can be delivered directly to the production site. This green hydrogen is fed into a bioreactor, along with CO2, where our proprietary methanogenic archaea synthesize e-methane gas.
Following this, standard liquefaction is used to convert the e-methane gas into eLNG. Used as a drop-in replacement for liquefied natural gas, eLNG is an Renewable Fuel of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) and can be independently certified to ensure regulatory compliance.
